IAA:? What city and state are you from?
AGUNY ASE:? I was born in Mobile, Alabama, also known as the gulf coast, but I was raised in the city of Prichard, which is the home of the Mattie T. Blount Leopards and the Vigor High School Wolfpack. To be more exact, I live in Cotton Mill Village and Queens Court projects. We also have the Mardi Gras every year in Mobile. Most people don?t know about that. There is plenty of southern home cooking and things like that. Good people and really good food of all kinds. I did a lot of fishing at Dauphin Island and hunting in Deer Park with my uncle.
IAA:? What is your music background??
AGUNY ASE:? Well, my dad played the saxophone in the marching band and was the lead singer in an R&B group. He used to play the saxophone to me when I was a baby. We had a xylophone around the house. I used to call them the bells but whenever I had a chance I would play them. Also, whenever I went to my grandmother?s house in Citronelle, Alabama I would play her piano. Most of my aunts played Blues while they played spades so us kids listened as well. So when I got in a middle school called Mobile County Training School, I was in the band and chorus. I was the type of person that would ask my classmates if they were taking their instruments home and if they weren?t I would take it and practice with it. I pretty much play any instrument that I put my hands on. High school was no different because as you may know the band is a very huge deal in the south. I was section leader in the 9th grade in the tuba section. I have also been to college and have taken some audio recording classes even though I have my own studio and I?ve been recording for years. I felt like it would further my knowledge in my craft because I feel that a person should never stop learning.
IAA:? Why do you want to record and release your own music?
AGUNY ASE:? I?m very humble but I know that I?m truly blessed to be this talented. Music is a very important passion in my life. I love to record music because of the emotion that music creates and I record myself because I happen to be good at it. Recording is also an art in itself. I feel that it would be such a waste for me not to release these amazing works of art that I have created. There are so many people who have it hard and they give up on their hopes and dreams before they have a chance to make it happen, but not me. I breathe music even when I?m sleep. I literally have dreams about making music, wake up, and record the tune or melody that I was dreaming about.
IAA:? What are your songs about?
AGUNY ASE:? My songs are about life, period. I talk about the ups, downs, the good, the bad, the triumph and defeat. I talk about poverty and I talk about overcoming it. I also celebrate overcoming adversity in my music. I talk about the streets of course because that?s where I?m from. I?m from the ghetto for real and I don?t have to make things up about it. I know what it is like to be hungry and not know where your next meal will come from. My sister, brother, and I stood in the free lunch lines and free food lines that the churches used to sponsor on a regular. So my songs really come from within and different experiences that I have witnessed in life. I?m proud to know that the things that I have been through never destroyed me. None of it made me a bitter person and it didn?t corrupt my personality.
IAA:? Who is your fan base directed towards?
AGUNY ASE:? The whole world. Some young people and some older people depending on where they?re at in life, but no matter where they are I have a song that they can relate to. I don?t make music just to hear myself. I know I have something brilliant to share with the world.
IAA:? Who are your musical influences?
AGUNY ASE:? Wow! This is a long list but just to name a few I would say Quincy Jones, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Stevie Wonder, Timberland, Dr. Dre, Rodney Jerkins, Nas, Ludacris, Tupac, Jadakiss, Jay Z, Scarface, Ice Cube, Eightball & MJG, UGK and many others.
IAA:? How would you describe your music to people?
AGUNY ASE:? A melodic array of instruments with chest pumping drums and various mind gripping sounds. I would also say that my music has captivating concepts and lyrics with unique metaphors that excite the mind of the listener. I would describe my voice like FAMU?s or Southern University?s tuba section. Raw and powerful!
IAA:? What makes you stand out from other artists?
AGUNY ASE:? I am the visionary, the writer, the engineer, the artist, and the music composer. I?m extremely diverse and musically inclined when it comes to my craft. I think by me being able to play several instruments it gives me an edge with my production. Plus with my background in chorus I truly understand sharp and flat which helps me be able to help other artists get the best out of their recording when they are working with me or if I?m recording them for their own project.
IAA:? What are some upcoming projects you are currently working on?
AGUNY ASE:? ?My new album, which is one of four, and a few mix tapes with various artists. I?m producing tracks for a few artists as well. I?m also working on a few projects with Intuition Music in the UK.
IAA:? What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
AGUNY ASE:? One of my goals is to continue making good music for the world to hear. I plan to travel and tour the world and work with artists everywhere in different genres. In ten years I see myself producing hits for artists that I have signed and artists that are signed with other labels. I also see myself venturing in major movie productions.
